All CanoëART strip canoes are made from first quality western Canadian cedar wood. Th planks used are free from knots and full-length so as to avoid joints. These planks are cut in strips of 1/4-inch thick (5 mm) and 3/4-inch high (19 mm). Each strip is finished bead-and-cove in its thickness so as to fit into each other and then glued. No staple or nail is used at any time of fabrication.

Once the hull is completed, we cover it, inside and outside, with a fiber-glass fabric on which we apply 5 layers of clear high-quality epoxy. This will insure it is waterproof and give it maximum strength.

As for the thwarts, front and aft decks, gunwales, seats, etc., we use hard wood such as ash, maple and mahogany.

Afterwards, we apply 7 or 8 coats of high-quality marine varnish to protect the epoxy from the sun's damaging UV rays.

The finished product is a superb watercraft, light and most durable.

CanoëART's canoes are made with the utmost care and meticulousness so as to give you - you the paddler - the utmost pride.

Our canoes may be more expensive than the machine-made ones (they do require over 400 hours of labor-of-love), but you will appreciate the difference as soon as you see one. It is a sight to behold.
